Bring the Spring in with #FebrezeSpring Scents

I love when Spring finally rolls around the corner. Not only does it mean we finally get a break from the bone chilling cold (now no laughing East coasters) but the flowers start blooming, birds chirping, it’s time for renewal. I know for some spring time brings pollen, allergies, but for me it brings beautiful smells. Ever walk outside with the morning dew still on the grass and just breath a deep breath? A few of my favorite smells this time of year are nectarines, lilies, pineapple, melons and the smell right before it rains.

Lucky for me I can now bring a few of those smells in the house with me with Frebreze’s new spring line, Spring Scents. One of our favorite things to do with the weather being so gorgeous is getting outside and enjoying the air, and the best place to do that is at the park! This last weekend the kids met up with some friends to enjoy some park time and the cuteness was just too much. Okay not really but man was it cute. My youngest loves the slide and discovered it’s also fun going down it backwards. His giggles were echoing through the slide and I just had to snap a few pictures of it. Just try and tell me this is not adorable!

Get outside & play with Coca-Cola’s #TakeItToThePark

We love the park. And when I say WE I mean all of us, yes that most certainly includes myself. I love watching the kids have fun and seeing their smiling faces brings me joy. Knowing that I can sit for a minute and relax while they go play to their hearts content is an truly awesome thing. And something a park adds extra value to because you’re almost never the only person there. It’s very rare occasion for to be no other families also at the park doing the same exact thing. One of our favorite parks out here is what the kids call “The Wolf Park” but to us adults it is more commonly known as Reeves Park. One part of the playground has a wolf head hence them calling it the Wolf Park. I didn’t snap a photo of it this time but I have in the past. It’s actually pretty neat. Another thing I LOVE about this park is it’s all wood. Well excluding the slides and swing set seats of course.

Prior to moving here and going to this park I had never before seen a park made entirely of wood. Heck I don’t think I had ever seen a park made with any wood before. Everything was all metal or wood. So this park is extra special for that reason. Also it is completely fenced in. There are two main sections to the playground. The older kids and the wee kids. Each of them are fenced in (you can see the fence in the background in the photo above). There are two entries/exits. Both on the same side of the playground so you can’t miss if your child runs out. Having that little added security feature is really important to me since my youngest is still a bit of a runner. One last thing I’ll mention….TREES! A park is not a park if it doesn’t have trees. They provide many functions but most importantly on an extremely hot day they provide shade! For all these reasons and more is why I love taking the kiddos to this local park. Since the first time we went we knew it would become a favorite park of ours and even though we’ve been countless times it’s still awesome each time we go there.

Coca-Cola recently introduced the America is Your Park campaign. The idea behind the campaign is to help bring people together to improve the health of their communities. And with the start of the campaign the hunt is on to find Americas Favorite Park! Now here’s the special part, the park that wins 1st place will receive the title of Americas Favorite Park AND a $100,000 recreational grant which can be used for improvements to the park. The 2nd place park will receive $50,000 3rd place $25,000 and the there will be a $15,000 wildcard grant that will be awarded to a randomly chosen park from the remaining 25 spots on the leaderboard! Another thing I love about this campaign is anyone can put together their own park meet-up and make things happen! This is the part where I shamelessly ask a personal favor of you all. The park that is currently in the lead with 147628 of the votes (as of July 4th) is the the Veterans Memorial Park at 1900 SE 4th Street, Moore, OK. During the May 20th tornado it was destroyed. I would love to see the park rebuilt not just for the children but for the city of Moore as a whole. Moore has a long way to go until it’s fully rebuilt and how amazing would it be to start with a place where community comes together to play, interact with each and overall come to have a fun time. Then the following two photos show how the park was completely destroyed.

Find your perfect style with Style United

I like to think of myself as a stylish person, one who knows the latest fashions and that I keep up with the current trends. The reality though is that I kind of have my own style of fashion. And I fully admit it’s rather boring. I am a jeans and shirt kind of gal and I go for the comfort over the stylish options. Heck I still have some clothes that I wore in high school. Not that I fit into them anymore, yet there they sit in my closet.
I recently heard of a site that will help you find the perfect style, naturally I was instantly intrigued. And when I learned that it’s not just for clothes but for your skin, makeup and hair as well. My first thought “bring it on”.

Here’s what you need to do. Sing up for an account at StyleUnited.
Once you are signed up you can either browse through the site or you can start by taking the Style 360 quiz. These are the four quizzes:
1. Fashion Focus
2. Mad for Makeup
3. Skin Deep
4. Hair Affair
Don’t worry the quizzes only take a few minutes each and some of the basic questions such as you age are remembered so you don’t need to keep inputting it. Once you complete each quiz StyleUnited will you give a result based off your answers with style suggestions complete with fashion approach, color palette, your ideal outfit (that you’ve put together), and of course your wish list. One of the things I really liked about the quiz was each time you receive a new question there is a tip on the right hand corner that applies to which quiz you were taking. For example, did you know that you have approximately 20,000 pores on your face?
After you finish all four of the quizzes you can will be able to view your complete style profile, from head to toe ideas and tips made just for you. I almost forgot to mention that StyleUnited also offers a 1 on 1 consultation. How awesome is that!

My results for the fashion focus quiz was: Casual Cool with a hint of Classic Tailored. I mean tell me these are not some seriously cute styles, especially those boots, swoon.

Ghirardelli Milk & Truffles squares

If you are a lover of chocolate I am sure you have heard of Ghirardelli. For many they are know as the finest chocolate makers. A statement I cannot argue with because…well have you tried their chocolates! I was given the opportunity to try out a new line of chocolates they are now offering called Milk & Truffles squares. Now who am I to turn down trying chocolate.

I am no connoisseur but I do enjoy chocolate. Here are my opinions on the Milk & Truffle squares. The outside of the chocolate is made with milk chocolate. Smooth but hard yet not too hard. Only enough to provide a slight crunch when you bite into it. The filling is a chocolate truffle filling that is again, smooth but it is also rich & delicate at the same time. The richness is not overpowering, it’s a perfectly blend of dark and milk chocolate with a hint of truffles.

In other words, absolutely divine.

Ghirardelli Milk & Truffle squares are currently sold at Target, Walmart, Walgreen & at other major retail stores. You can search for a store near you here. They come in in 4.63 ounce bag and while some may say that’s too small you have to remember these aren’t the type of chocolates you are supposed to chow down & devour in a matter of minutes. These are to be savored. On the bottom of the bag it says “Moment of timeless pleasure” and that is exactly how these should be enjoyed. As a little timeless escape, savored and enjoyed.

Macy’s Classroom Makeover Sweepstakes

We all know that Macy’s is known as being one of the most amazing department stores out there but did you also know they are very involved in giving back to the community.

In fact in 2010 they helped raise approximately $60 million dollars to different causes around the country and they donated more than 122,000 hours of their personal time for community service. I’m sorry but for a big corporation to have such a big heart like that is simply amazing and something I wish other big corporations would take a hint from them.

Right now Macy’s is holding Classroom Makeover Sweepstakes, the prize, $25,000 to the school of your choice for an ultimate makeover. Schools are struggling more and more financially each year. Budgets are being cut left and right and who suffers from all these cutbacks? The students. Our children.

Aetna Healthy Food Fight

Eating healthy is not always easy to do. With the cost of organic foods, finding time to cook healthy meals. getting picky eaters to eat said meals. Yeah it can be a struggle sometimes but it is still something may strive for. And for me personally I feel that it’s worth the extra time, effort and money just to feed my family food that is good for them and not cave and order the occasional fast food. While it may be tasty and an “easy way out” it is not healthy for you.

Aetna has teamed up with She Speaks to help spread the word about the Healthy Food Fight campaign. The entire site is dedicated to making healthy food choices. There is even a recipe section and tips on how to get you to achieve a healthy lifestyle. To kick off the second year of the campaign they are hosting a Food Fight Challenge.

Have a healthy recipe that you’ve created? Want to share that recipes with like minded people while entering a contest that may end you in the semi finals and have a cook off? I thought you might like the sound of that. You can either submit a healthy recipe and/or vote for a recipe here. And if you are one of the four lucky finalists this will be an opportunity of a lifetime. You will get to compete in front of world renowned chef Bobby Flay and a few VIP judges. What’s the prize you ask, the winner of the Final Cook-off will receive a grand prize of $10,000 worth of groceries (donated by Recipe.com). It just keeps getting better and better doesn’t it.

So what are you waiting for? Go enter! It’s pretty simple really. Just select the region you would like to compete in, register at Healthy Food Fight and submit your recipe. There will be a Healthy Recipe Analyzer just to confirm that the recipe is in fact healthy (pretty neat if you ask my). After it’s approved share your heart out about your submission! Submitting opened on August 22nd for the Pomona, CA region. The Dallas, TX region opened today, September 1st. Atlanta, GA submissions open on September 9th and the Philadelphia, PA submissions open on September 23rd.

I submitted Unstuffed Bell Peppers. A favorite of mine and since the kids aren’t always gungho about a big bell pepper sitting in front of them I improvised and came up with this dish.
